아라리오갤러리 서울은 2026년 4월 18일(토)까지 이정배(b. 1974) 개인전 《생활》을 개최합니다. 이번 전시는 ‘미술가가 만드는 가구’라는 개념 아래, 이정배가 오랫동안 축적해 온 조형 감각을 생활 속으로 확장하며 가구를 ‘쓰이는 조형’이자 일상 속에서 경험되는 조각으로 제시합니다.
그의 가구는 기능과 형태가 분리되지 않는 상태에서 실용과 아름다움이 공존하며, 몸의 사용과 시간의 축적 속에서 비로소 완성되는데요. 작가가 말하는 ‘쓰여지는 아름다움’은 가구가 단순한 도구를 넘어 공간과 감각을 형성하는 조형적 매개가 됨을 의미하며, 전시는 이를 통해 가구를 삶의 구조를 드러내는 장치로 바라봅니다. 결국 《생활》은 가구를 통해 예술이 일상 속에서 어떻게 작동할 수 있는지를 탐색하며, 예술과 일상의 경계를 가로지르는 ‘실용의 아름다움’과 생활 자체가 미학의 연장선이 되는 경험을 제안하고 있습니다.

ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL presents a solo exhibition of LEE Jeongbae (b. 1974) titled 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 until 18 Apr 2026. In this exhibition, conceived under the notion of “furniture made by an artist,” LEE extends the sculptural sensibility he has accumulated over many years into the realm of everyday life, presenting furniture as both “functional form” and sculpture experienced in daily use.
His furniture embodies a state in which function and form are inseparable, allowing practicality and beauty to coexist, and reaching completion only through bodily use and the accumulation of time. What the artist calls “beauty that is used” suggests that furniture moves beyond being a mere tool to become a sculptural mediator that shapes space and perception. Through this perspective, the exhibition considers furniture as a device that reveals the underlying structure of living itself. Ultimately, the exhibition 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 explores how art can operate within everyday life through furniture, proposing an experience in which “beauty that is used” traverses the boundary between art and daily life, and where living itself becomes an extension of aesthetics
